Description

Walk up Devil's Gulch fire road a few hundred yards to Devil's Gulch trail, which splits to the right. Follow the trail to the wooden bridge that crosses Devil's Gulch creek. Bill's trail starts on the other side of the bridge. Continue on Bill's trail for 4.1 miles, to Barnabe Peak. After 1.2 miles on Bill's trail, you'll pass a side trail to Stairstep Falls. It's a short walk down the trail to the falls. After the falls, the trail will gradually climb and switchback through trees.

Bill's trail intersects the Barnabe fire road, about a half mile below the peak. At the top of the peak, there's a fire lookout station, affording sweeping views of the Marin headlands and Point Reyes. After taking in the view, head back down the Barnabe fire road. The road descends steeply and eventually becomes the Gravesite fire road. The road will pass the grave of Samuel P. Taylor on the left, and it eventually returns to the bridge over Devil's Gulch.
